Tip of the Week

Christmas time is here again! It is one of the most exciting times of the year for me. There seems to be an extra amount of love, kindness and hope during the Christmas season. It is indeed the most wonderful time of the year! Most of us will eat more than we should and will spend time with family and friends, some of whom we may not have seen for a while.

The one thing that I think makes Christmas so special is children. The toys, the lights, the school concerts and plays…they all remind us that children are such a special part of this season. As you well know, the whole purpose of Christmas is to honor the birth of one special child, Jesus. Yet that overflow goes into the lives of all of our children because we do care for them and love them all so very much!

There is something innocent and special about the life a child. They are filled with a spirit of wonder and have the faith and hope that life is going to be good for them. A child is so innocent that they do not know whether things are really good or really bad. They just know that there is a lot to be happy about on a daily basis.

Have you ever noticed that children are always laughing and playing and looking for something to get into as they explore their world? They are trusting by nature and have a genuine love for life. How many of us have ever looked at a child and wished that we could be like that again? There is just an innocence about them that is so incredibly special!

I genuinely believe with all my heart that it is possible to maintain a youthful enthusiasm and genuine love of life throughout our lifetime, if we will work at it. I do not think it will come effortlessly. It is easy to become burdened down by the responsibilities of life. However, child-like faith and the ability to enjoy life does not have to be lost. It can be cultivated in our lives. I believe that all of us will live longer and be healthier if we will make it a life-long goal to be more child-like.

I am not talking about being childish, or naïve or foolish. I am talking about having hope and a light inside of us that never goes out. Regardless of what happens in our world, we can always look for a better day and a brighter future. That is what it means to have the nature and spirit of a child…one that is full of faith – trusting that there really is a God watching over us. It means having hope – believing that things will be better in our life. It means having love – caring about other people, and enjoying everyday life to its fullest.

It is Christmas and it is time to be thankful and grateful for all our many blessings. We have so much to be thankful for and I am sure that you already agree. However, I think the icing on the cake would be for all of us to look at children and say a prayer in our hearts that we could be more like them, believing that the beauty of life is something that can be held forever, if we maintain the spirit of a child. It is a worthy goal and one that all of us would do better to pursue daily. Don’t you agree?

Merry Christmas!

Tip: Never lose your child-like spirit!
